ABOUT CLASSROOM LACROSSE®

In 1992, ELEV8 founder Geoff Snider was introduced to the sport of Lacrosse at Captain John Palliser Elementary School in his 5th grade gym class, taught by Mrs. Grant.  At that moment, Geoff fell in love with the sport of Lacrosse and registered with the Crowchild Lacrosse Association the following Spring.  This introduction to the sport initiated a very dynamic athletic career, contrasting both lacrosse and hockey as Geoff grew up.  Following suit was younger brother, and ELEV8 VP of Operations and Player Development, Bob Snider.  Together, they have combined for 5 Minto Cups, 1 MLL Title, 2 World Championships, and the creation and growth of Canada’s leading lacrosse development company.

The ELEV8 Classroom Lacrosse® program introduces the sport of lacrosse and educates students on the origin and indigenous roots of the sport in Canada and North America.

The student-centred program ensures that students are actively involved. ELEV8® Professional coaches and National Lacrosse League players lead and instruct the customizable ELEV8 Classroom Lacrosse® program.

Beyond the basics of lacrosse, students will learn important values like teamwork and integrity while building on physical skills fundamental to any sport.

ELEV8® Lacrosse is fully equipped to provide the necessary lacrosse equipment (real lacrosse sticks, soft balls) to single classes and instruct in an indoor gym or outdoor setting (early fall | spring).

OriGINS and HISTORY OF LACROSSE

Lacrosse was started by the Native Americans and was originally known as stickball. The game was initially played in the St. Lawrence Valley area by the Algonquian tribe and they were followed by other tribes in the eastern half of North America, and around the western Great Lakes.

The Native American games were seen as major events, which took place over several days. They were played over huge open areas between villages and the goals, which might be trees or other natural features, were anything from 500 yards to several miles apart. Any number of players were involved. Some estimates have mentioned between 100 and 100,000 players participating in a game at any one time. The rules were very simple, the ball was not to be touched by a player’s hand and there were no boundaries. The ball was tossed into the air to indicate the start of the game and players raced to be the first to catch it.

Testimonials

This is my second time working with ELEV8 lacrosse, and it will definitely not be my last…we have already booked for next school year!! The instructors effectively modified their approach to teaching students skills and engaged ALL of our students from grade 1 to 6. Our staff and students loved the program!

The ELEV8 Lacrosse Classroom program was integrated as part of our Sports Performance program. The coaches combined a variety of skill activities that could be differentiated for any level and ability. The progression that each activity took made for a seamless transition into game scenarios. The ELEV8 Coaching staff made every effort to interact with each individual student, providing meaningful feedback to improve their personal technique. We are thrilled to provide our students with an opportunity to work directly with elite athletes!

I just wanted to take a quick moment to follow up and let you know we absolutely loved having Coach Seth for the last 2 days come out and work with our students. It was great to have your developmentally appropriate programming into our school. It was a great addition to what we currently provide for our students here. The games and activities that Seth played with our students were well organized and they had fun while learning something new. I also appreciated that the equipment was the appropriate size for our students. Seth treated all of our students with respect and demonstrated patience throughout the time here with us. He connected well with our staff and students and was kind. Very professional.

Having the ELEV8 team come in to our school and expose our students and staff to Canada's national sport has been an excellent. The coaching staff are well-organized, engaging, and dedicated. Their clear expertise of not only the game, but of coaching children and youth, has been very beneficial. ELEV8 has worked across our system, in countless schools, getting sticks into the hands of students. The energy and enthusiasm radiating from your gymnasium during this residency will prove it is money well spent!
